Vipingo MX a great success
Last weekend (8 - 9 October 2022) saw the National Motocross Championship return triumphantly to the Coast Province after a 15-year hiatus. Round 8 held at Vipingo Ridge’s new off-road racing track was a great success seeing 64 riders participate and approximately 1000 spectators, organisers, sponsors and family members watch the action from the sidelines. The ages of the participants ranged from 5 in the Peewee class up to 72 in the Veterans’ class in an impressive and diverse turn out for this notable event.
The two-day championship is the second Motorcycle Sports Federation of Kenya (MSFK)-sanctioned race that has been hosted at Vipingo Ridge in Kilifi County. The first in December 2021 did not count toward the National Championship but acted as a pilot event to pave the way for more Vipingo Ridge official fixtures on the race circuit. It is hoped that this coastal series will attract more Kenyan riders and fans to the sport of Motocross.
Alastair Cavenagh, Chairman of Vipingo Ridge, thanked the sponsors, spectators and everyone that took part:
“We had a fantastic weekend with a huge turnout and on behalf of the whole team at Vipingo Ridge, I thank every rider, spectator and sponsor for helping us make this event a brilliant success. Particular thanks must go to our gold sponsors Offroad Adventures, Inchcape Kenya, Capital FM, Mombasa Cement, Superior Homes, Collective Energy Africa and Total Energies. But there is a whole host of companies that sponsored the race. As always, these events are testament to the support and hard work of everyone involved.”
