EarthRanger conservation technology workshops come to Kenya

We are thrilled to announce Vipingo Ridge has been chosen as the venue for the Kenya workshop for EarthRanger training later this month.

Technology to accelerate the work to protect wildlife and people

EarthRanger aims to bridge the data gap in conservation and works to help protected area managers to make informed decisions. In 2024 EarthRanger is hosting a series of workshops across the globe, and their mission and the ambitions for the workshop programme are very exciting:

Over the last nine years of our existence, one thing has become clear: every conservation site is unique, with its own set of challenges and priorities. At EarthRanger, we believe that when used effectively, technology can accelerate the work being done to protect wildlife and people.

To help conservationists harness the full potential of technology such as EarthRanger, we are organizing a series of EarthRanger Training Workshops. From Cambodia to Zambia and Kenya to Panama, these events are designed to provide hands-on, customized training that addresses conservation organizations’ day-to-day operational and larger management needs.

EarthRanger comes to the Kenya coast

Vipingo Ridge is a Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) registered Wildlife Sanctuary, and proud users of the EarthRanger software. Our Wildlife team prioritise data collection and research to support our protected species genetic diversity breeding programme, as well as our habitat protection and restoration projects.

For the Kenya Workshop event we will welcome 130 delegates to Vipingo Ridge, Kilifi for a three-day event at the end of September. For this popular and sold-out event the EarthRanger team are travelling to meet conservationists and partners to explore solutions to challenges and to network. The Kenya workshops will mark an interesting group from across the leading conservation organisations in Kenya, and also delegates from as far as the Bahamas. The venue along Kenya’s Coastline also creates an interesting opportunity to explore both the land and sea applications of technology.

Why Choose Vipingo Ridge for a conference?

EarthRanger explored a number of options for their 2024 Kenya Workshop Training, and several factors contributed to the selection of Vipingo Ridge:

The natural beauty of the location and facilities immediately stood out, offering a unique environment for participants to connect with both nature and conservation.

While we’ve hosted live events across Kenya (Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and Naivasha), this is our first event on the country’s coastline.

Most importantly, Vipingo Ridge is a user of EarthRanger, and it felt like the perfect opportunity to give back to a property that is deeply involved in conservation. We hope to drive awareness around the work being done there, showcasing how technology, local efforts, and tourism can come together to protect Kenya’s biodiversity.

Vipingo Ridge will be supporting the conference organisers with a full service from an air-conditioned workshop venue to catering, accommodation to entertainment, with guests experiencing the panoramic views of the Clubhouse Rooftop, the Sunset views over the Chodari Hills and the Beach Club on the Indian Ocean during their residential workshop.

Important Conservation Conversations

As a Wildlife Sanctuary Vipingo Ridge is proud to be part of the conservation community and as a venue we are delighted to have the opportunity to support EarthRanger as they bring together key stakeholders:

In addition to gaining practical, region-specific skills and strategies, these workshops allow delegates to connect with others working in similar landscapes. As we’ve seen time and time again, it is through these networking moments that collaboration is strengthened or ignited, and new connections are made, often leading to innovative solutions and long-lasting partnerships.

By empowering teams with advanced conservation technologies such as EarthRanger, fostering collaboration, and sharing success stories and lessons learned, EarthRanger is supporting the urgent work needed to advance the way we protect wildlife and people.
