Why vote for Vipingo Ridge?
Vipingo Ridge is not a stranger to awards nominations, indeed in late 2024 we won at the World Golf Awards, recognised as Africa’s Best Golf Real Estate Venue 2024. But why should you nominate us for the Best Golf Resort in Kenya?
Our Golf is World Class
An 18-hole championship course is at the heart of the resort. The only PGA (Professional Golf Assocation) branded course in the whole of Africa, the PGA Baobab Course is a stunning 72-par supported by a state of the art PGA Academy, with driving range and 3 putting greens. Our golf tuition team is at a global standard, including the Kenyan Ladies number 1 Naomi Wafula on our coaching team (as well as her benefitting from coaching from our PGA Advanced Fellow). Our Resort is a Sanctuary
We have a 60 room hotel and villa complex enabling tourists to stay and experience our unique ‘golf safari’ playing with wildlife happily living in harmony. Set in 2000 acres, Vipingo Ridge is a registered Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Wildlife Sanctuary. This means as well as being the home for giraffes and other orphans of human-wildlife conflict, our habitats have been reviewed, have a plan, and we continue to work closely on habitat restoration of this former sisal farm planting 1000s of native flora and fauna.
Leading on Eco-tourism
From the rain water capture systems for watering the golf course, to our solar farm to power pumps we prioritise sustainable practices to make ours the most eco-friendly of courses: How a Golf Course can support World Environment Day. We have tree planting as one of our guest activities, alongside electric bike cycling safaris, ranger walks, marine park snorkelling and engaging with the women of Kilifi through climate smart kitchen gardening which is impacting over 300 homes in Kilifi.
State of the art Amenities
Vipingo Ridge has a Beach Club and Watersports centre, making the most of the coastal location. We recently created a new Sports Club with Padel, Tennis and other sports to support our golf activities. There are three restaurants at Vipingo Ridge, each with it’s own style and flavour. The newest outlet, the Pool Gardens launched in late 2024 has sunset views over pool and the Chodari Hills and celebrates the welcome shade from the native trees from which it gets its name.
Celebrating Kenya
From local cuisine to over 70% of the Vipingo Ridge team being from the local community, we celebrate our roots in Kilifi and are proud to share Kenya with our guests and visitors. From international conferences, weddings to golf tournaments such as the Magaical Kenya Ladies Open we proactively encourage tourists to experience Kenya. The Vipingo Ridge Beach Club is the home of the world-famous Kuruwitu Tengefu team, where King Charles III visited to raise awareness of this powerful community-led project.
Our vision the be the lifestyle destination celebrating Kenya means we are always looking for ways to promote and support Kenya.
The Vibrant Golf Scene of Kenya
Golf is an emerging sports tourism market in Kenya. Second only to South Africa in terms of the golf popularity, Kenya has some 40 golf courses across the country.
The shortlist of courses in the Best Golf Resort awards category is exciting to see. From the Nairobi based courses, to ‘Up country’ and Coastal courses (such as Vipingo Ridge’s PGA Baobab Course) Kenya is clearly emerging as a great golf destination for global travellers. Indeed, this start of 2025 Vipingo Ridge will welcome golf groups from Germany, Italy, Nigeria and Canada, all coming to Kilifi, Kenya with golf as their core activity.
Of course, as Kenya, travellers often take the opportunity to complete a safari experience. We’re well connected with an airstrip connecting to the Masai Mara and other key Safari venues, as well as being a short drive from the popular Tsavo East and Tsavo West Game Parks.
Golf in Kenya: Growing Golf Tourism
To have a Golf Resort category in the Facilities and Establishments category for these inaugural Kenya Tourism Awards means that ultimately we are all winners as the sport continues to grow and be promoted a the top levels of the tourism industry. We appreciate the recognition, grateful to be shortlisted and wish all the entrants the best of luck.
